Install LineageOS on v400

Basic requirements

  1. Make sure your computer has adb. Setup instructions can be found here.
  2. Enable USB debugging on your device.

Rooting your device

  1. Download TowelRoot from here.
    1. Click the large lambda symbol to download the apk.
    2. Install and run the apk to achieve root.

Installing a custom recovery using dd

  1. Download a custom recovery - you can download TWRP. Simply download the latest recovery file, named something like twrp-x.x.x-x-v400.img.

  2. Place the recovery image file on the root of /sdcard:
    • Using adb: adb push <recovery_filename>.img /sdcard/<recovery_filename>.img
    • You can use any method you are comfortable with. adb is universal across all devices, and works both in Android and recovery mode, providing USB debugging is enabled.
  3. Now, open an adb shell from a command prompt (on Windows) or terminal (on Linux or macOS) window. In that shell, type the following commands:
    su
    dd if=/sdcard/<recovery_filename>.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery

  4. Manually reboot into recovery:
    • With the device powered off, hold Power + Volume Down. When the LG logo appears, release both buttons and then hold them again. When prompted to erase all user data, choose ‘Yes’. Once again choose ‘Yes’ to confirm and then device will boot to recovery.

Installing LineageOS from recovery

  1. Build a LineageOS installation package.

    • Optionally, download additional application packages such as Google Apps (use the arm architecture).
  2. If you are not in recovery, reboot into recovery:
    • With the device powered off, hold Power + Volume Down. When the LG logo appears, release both buttons and then hold them again. When prompted to erase all user data, choose ‘Yes’. Once again choose ‘Yes’ to confirm and then device will boot to recovery.
  3. Now tap Wipe.
  4. Now tap Format Data and continue with the formatting process. This will remove encryption and delete all files stored in the internal storage.

  5. Return to the previous menu and tap Advanced Wipe, then select the Cache and System partitions and then Swipe to Wipe.

  6. Sideload the LineageOS .zip package:
    • On the device, select “Advanced”, “ADB Sideload”, then swipe to begin sideload.
    • On the host machine, sideload the package using: adb sideload filename.zip
  7. (Optionally): If you want to install any additional add-ons, adb sideload filename.zip those packages in sequence.

  8. (Optional): Root your device by installing LineageOS’ AddonSU, (use the arm package) or by using any other method you prefer.
  9. Once you have installed everything successfully, run ‘adb reboot’.
